A Conversation About Our Local City Service Needs
Thank you to the hundreds of residents that participated in our community survey earlier this year – Your feedback shapes the future of our City!
Safe neighborhoods, well-maintained streets and parks and a wide variety of activities for seniors, youth and families are all a big part of maintaining property values – which residents have told us are important to them. The City must be able to continue to maintain streets, parks, sheriff response, and other City services and programs for our residents.
The City strives to repair our streets and fill potholes in Artesia. Before this year’s rainy season, independent engineers rated over one-third of Artesia’s streets as “poor” or “very poor” and their condition has worsened this winter. It will be less expensive to repair the streets now than wait until later.
With at least 130 active gang members living in Artesia additional funding for the Sheriff’s Department could allow them to maintain City-run anti-gang programs for youth.
Artesia residents also prioritized the following City services:
- Maintaining 911 emergency response times
- Repairing streets and potholes
- Maintaining gang prevention programs for youth
- Cleaning and maintaining public areas
- Maintaining sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and street lighting
- Maintaining safe routes to schools
- Maintaining crime prevention programs involving thefts and burglaries
