An estimated crowd of over 4,000 individuals attended the City of Artesia’s India Independence Day celebration at Artesia Park on Saturday, August 11.
The free event took place from 6:00 pm to 10:30 pm, and featured 54 vendor booths ranging from mango ice cream to fine jewelry and almost everything in between.
Throughout the event, attendees kept the food booth vendors busy with long lines of folk’s eager to try the tasty fare. The Kid Zone saw plenty of action, with families enjoying giant slides, bounce houses, and even train rides!
As the sun set, Mayor Pro Tem Tony Lima welcomed the standing room only crowd, which overflowed the 1,200-seat viewing area for youth cultural performances, dancers, and various group program’s.
The Parks and Recreation Department holds each special event with the goal of providing a fun, positive impact on the youth, adults, and seniors in the community to improve the quality of life for all residents. The City’s India Independence Day celebration is the City’s second largest annual event, and is just one of the 30 special events the City hosts throughout the year to represent its diverse community.
