PRESS RELEASE
At its May 12th City Council meeting, the Artesia City Council approved a significant infrastructure contract for a project aimed at improving sidewalk safety and accessibility across the community. Funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, the project will repair or replace sidewalks at 39 locations identified in the Citywide Sidewalk Assessment as posing the most serious hazards.
Thanks to the City Council’s foresight in joining the County’s Revolving Grant Fund, Artesia tripled its FY 2024-25 CDBG allocation from $90,423 to $272,472, making this expanded project possible. The City Council awarded the construction contract for a total not-to-exceed amount of $144,691.85. Work is scheduled to begin this summer and be completed by the fall season.
“Ensuring our sidewalks are accessible is a fundamental part of building a community where everyone can travel safely and feel welcome,” said Mayor Ali Taj.
This initiative represents the City’s continued commitment to safety and accessibility for all.
