Information on Measure M

The State has already taken more than $1.5 million dollars from Artesia to deal with the State budget deficit.  Continuous state takeaways coupled with declining revenues have forced the City of Artesia to make substantial cuts to City services and programs.  Artesia has already reduced staff by 30%, affecting our community’s services.  No further cuts can be made without affecting current levels of public safety and police services, including crime and gang prevention programs.  In fact, police staffing levels are already at the absolute minimum recommended for a city the size of Artesia.  We also need to ensure that Artesia’s streets, roads, sidewalks, and public facilities do not deteriorate and fall into disrepair.  Artesia must have a protected, reliable source of local revenue to prevent severe cuts to critical services the community relies on.
