Artesia Express “Dial-A-Ride Service”

The City of Artesia offers free-of-charge transportation service, the "Artesia Express," to senior citizens (60 years of age or older), and individuals with disabilities who are Artesia residents. To obtain an ID Card please make an appointment by calling Artesia Park at (562) 860-3361. For Ride service call (800) 909-RIDE.

Meals On Wheels

An individual, partnership, or corporation who advertises or announces a business and/or intends to conduct or is conducting a business, either directly or indirectly is required to obtain a business license.

Artesia Nutrition Program

Lunches are served to Seniors (60 years of age or older), Monday – Friday at 11:30 a.m. Call for a reservation 24-hours in advance from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at (562) 924-6509. Donation is $l.75 and coffee is an additional 25 cents.

The City of Artesia provides a variety of programs and services for Senior Citizens, including daily meals, transportation, excursions, bingo, cards, socializing, line dancing, cultural arts, educational classes, pot-lucks, anniversaries, birthday and holiday celebrations.

Birthdays are celebrated on the first Thursday of each Month. Holidays are celebrated monthly. Seniors enjoy music and share in pot-luck snacks. Time is 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Senior Portuguese Social Hour

Seniors meet on the 1st Friday of each month, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Meetings include bingo, poetry, reading, music, folk songs, guest speakers, potlucks, and excursions.

Artesia Senior Club (Wednesdays)

5Seniors meet on Wednesdays, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meetings include bingo, poetry, reading, music, folk songs, cultural programs, guest speakers, potlucks, and excursions.

Senior Excursions

Seniors are encouraged to join in fun and exciting low cost excursions to a variety of places to see flower shows, shopping, festivals, the theatre, domestic cruises, horse races, and much more.

Health and Fitness

“Care More” nurse provides free Senior health care screening on the 3rd Thursday of each month
9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The nurse conducts individual minor health screening, and consults Seniors on proper health and nutrition.

Senior Bingo

Monday, Tuesday & Friday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am.
Bingo cards are $0.25 per card. Prizes are groceries.

Birthday and Anniversary Parties

Seniors birthdays and anniversary parties are held monthly by the three Senior groups (Artesia Seniors, Artesia Senior Citizen Group, and Portuguese Social Hour) that meet at the Albert O. Little Community Center.

Holiday Luncheons and Celebrations

The City of Artesia hosts three (3) holiday luncheons for Seniors (60 years of age or older), annually, as follows:
· Easter
· Thanksgiving
· Christmas

Holiday luncheons require advance registration. No phone registrations are permitted. Luncheons are free to Artesia residents, proof of residency is required, and a $4.00 fee is applicable to non-residents. Doors open at 10:00 a.m., and luncheon tickets must be presented at the door for admission.
