Public Works Plans to Revitalize Alleys

The Public Works Department is planning to replace asphalt concrete in Artesia’s alleyways in the near future.

Artesia has approximately 25 alleys, and all of these are scheduled to have the concrete replaced. A survey party has already looked at the alleys between Elaine, Devlin, 183rd, and South St. to 186th St.

The plan is to remove the entire existing asphalt concrete and replace with it with new. They will remove the crown in the alley and replace it with a “flow line” type construction down the center to drain excess water and rain run-off. ADA ramps will be placed at the each entrance/exit to the alleys. Public Works says this is a major construction project and will take approximately one month to complete.

“We’re doing all the control and construction staking for drainage and reconstruction in the alley mentioned,” said Public Works Consultant Chuck Burkhardt.

The actual construction will take place sometime within the next few weeks, Burkhardt added. Resident notices will be delivered via door flyer and/or other postings prior to construction.
