Long Beach Transit Reduces Service
At its August 22 meeting, the Long Beach Transit Board of Directors authorized
implementation of service reductions described on the attached sheets, effective
September 11.
These reductions will become necessary for Long Beach Transit to maintain a balanced budget in light of new state regulations governing meal/rest breaks for bus operators. The regulations allow for a negotiated alternative, and as such Long Beach Transit will continue to negotiate with our union (ATU 1589) to resolve this matter. But if no settlement is reached, the service reductions will proceed effective September 11 in order to absorb the up to $3 million cost of compliance.
To have a minimum impact to our customers, the service reductions will largely entail increased time between buses on many of our routes, with discontinued late night service on some routes.
