Artesia Historical Museum Opens to the Public

The Artesia Historical Museum has achieved a major milestone! It has now opened its doors to the public on a regular scheduled basis. The Museum was open for the first time on Saturday, January 14th (under the new schedule) and will now be open the 2nd Saturday of each month from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm with docents available to provide guidance and insight as exhibits are viewed. It is expected that as awareness of this local treasure and visitor attendance grows the hours will be expanded.
The Artesia Historical Museum located at 18644 Alburtis Ave., Artesia, is housed in the 1929 Frampton/Dantema House which was originally located on Pioneer Blvd. The structure was moved to its present site in 2003 and, in partnership with the City of Artesia, is under the stewardship of the Artesia Historical Society. The Society, with the support of the community, has been highly successful gathering artifacts, photographs and other memorabilia related to the history of Artesia and its surrounding communities, and have developed many interesting exhibits within the Museum. Everyone in the area is encouraged to visit during one of the upcoming opening days.
In addition to being open to the public, the Museum is also being utilized as a field trip location for area students. The Artesia Historical Society in concert with the ABC Unified School District has spearheaded a docent supported educational outreach experience for local children through school tours. To date several hundred students have toured the building, and experienced “old time” games and crafts. The Society has a full schedule of school tours for the current school year.
The Artesia Historical Museum is also home to the Artesia Historical Society,
which has their monthly meeting at 7:00 pm the 3rd Tuesday of each month in
the Museum. Anyone interested in our local history is welcome to attend. For
