Cleaning North Artesia

Residents of North Artesia participated in the city’s Neighborhood Clean-up March 18 from 7 a.m. to noon.
Ten 40-foot long trash bins were originally placed strategically throughout the community as 30 youth volunteers participated with and assisted city staff members in monitoring trash bins. The job of the youth volunteers was to assure that items not permitted were kept out of trash bins and also to assist residents with items that were too heavy for them to carry.
According to Jose Martinez, programs coordinator for North Artesia events, all ten trash bins were filled and only six of them were replaced.
The city’s Public Works Dept. also assisted with a graffiti truck and a tractor to remove large items such as refrigerators, stoves, couches, etc.
Martinez was on site to supervise the work. “The event was a great success with almost all 16 trash bins filled up by noon,” said Martinez.
All volunteers were treated to pizza, chips, and soft drinks at the after the last bin was filled as a gesture of appreciation for their help.
