Public Works Starts Spring Alley Cleanup
Artesia’s
Public Works Department has started its ‘spring cleaning’ of the
city’s alleyways.
The alleys are cleaned out three times a year, said public works superintendent Ed Leon, in an effort to remove trash, weeds, and overhanging branches in order to “beautify” the city. Spring alley cleanup covers 25 alleys and will last from six to eight weeks.
According to Leon, public works uses Round-Up, a weed killer that “gets rid of weeds for about four to five months, and then we have to spray again.”
A Neighborhood Cleanup is scheduled for the former “190’s” area of Artesia for Saturday, June 18.
