8th Annual Veterans and Community Career Expo 2007 at Norwalk Arts & Sports Complex

(Norwalk) – Employers looking for skilled, experienced, and mature workers should look at the 2.2 million veterans that call California home. Not only do more veterans live in California than any other state, each year 27,000 veterans return to California from active duty.

In honor of “Veteran Appreciation Month” in May, Employment Development Department (EDD) Veteran Workforce Specialists and Veteran Employment Services Specialists in EDD offices statewide make special efforts to find jobs for veterans. “Veterans possess a variety of qualities – including experience, maturity, leadership, and loyalty – that make them ideal candidates for employment,” said Connie Chan, Manager of the Norwalk EDD Job Service Office.

The Norwalk EDD Office will hold the 8th Annual Veterans and Community Career Expo 2007 from 9 am to 1 pm on Friday, May 4th, 2007 at the Norwalk Arts & Sports Complex, 13000 Clarkdale Avenue, Norwalk, CA 90650, in collaboration with partner agencies Southeast Area Social Services Funding Authority (SASSFA) and Southeast Los Angeles County (SELACO) Workforce Investment Board (WIB). In light of last year’s overwhelming success, it is anticipated that over 60 employers as well as community based organizations, and more than 500 job seekers will participate this year.

“No matter what the job, there are veterans who can do it well, and EDD can help employers find them,” said Chan. “Veteran Appreciation Month gives us the opportunity to increase employment opportunities for the men and women who have served our nation in the military.”
