The Artesia City Council has approved several measures intended to ease the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic on residents and business owners in Artesia. On Wednesday, March 25, the City Council approved moratoriums on residential and commercial evictions and foreclosures related to COVID-19 for the duration of the COVID-19 public health emergency and mandated that landlords give tenants six months to pay back rent. On Monday, March 30, the City Council amended that ordinance to encourage landlords to allow payment plans for payment of back rent in cases where rent was not paid due to COVID-19. The City Council also approved an anti-price gouging ordinance limiting price increases on many items, including rent, to 10% above the pre-emergency price. Click here to read these documents.

The State of California has also released information about its steps to help property owners and tenants during this emergency. Many financial institutions have agreed to 90-day grace periods for mortgage payments, relief of late fees, and other measures to assist those affected by COVID-19. Please check with your financial institution and the State’s COVID-19 response website, covid19.ca.gov, for more information.
