Demographics

The City of Artesia incorporated on May 29, 1959 as a General Law City. As shown below, the City has experienced a tremendous population growth since its incorporation. As of the 1990 Census, the City of Artesia had a population of 15,464 residents with a density of 9,665 persons per square mile.  The current population is approximately 17,000 residents.

The City of Artesia, a suburb of Los Angeles County, has a land area of approximately 1.6 square miles and an elevation of 50 feet. It is located approximately 19 miles southeast of Los Angeles and approximately 10 miles northeast of Long Beach. The City of Artesia is bounded by the City of Norwalk to the north, and the City of Cerritos to the south, east, and west.
