Meet Artesia's City Council

Victor Manalo

City Councilmember

 

Victor Manalo, Ph.D. is Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at California State University, Los Angeles, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate students in social welfare policy and politics, community organizing, and the administration of social service agencies. 

 

Dr. Manalo was first elected to the Artesia City Council in a special election in 2007, and, in 2009, he was re-elected to serve a four-year term.  He is currently serving as the Mayor of the City of Artesia.  His priorities include engaging with Artesia residents through quarterly town hall meetings, promoting volunteerism, revitalizing the downtown shopping corridor, and stabilizing the city’s revenue.

 

Dr. Manalo is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), and he has served on many local and statewide committees.  Currently, he serves as a member of the NASW Political Action for Candidate Election committee, and he is a candidate for the NASW National Board of Directors, representing the California region.

 

Dr. Manalo has served as a member of the ABC Unified School District Legislative & Policy Committee, the Su Casa Family Crisis and Support Center Board of Directors, and the Planning Commission of the City of Artesia.  For three years, he wrote a weekly column in the local Los Cerritos Community News, and he is the founder of the Peace & Justice Ministry at Holy Family Catholic Church in Artesia. 

 

Dr. Manalo lives in Artesia with his wife, Monica, and their three children.
