City, Historical Society, to finish 50th Anniversary with a Time Capsule at Old Fire Station 30
The Artesia Historical Society, in conjunction with the city of Artesia, will culminate the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Incorporation of the City by placing a 50th Anniversary Time Capsule in the nearly restored Old Fire Station 30 Museum.
Prescott's Hardware and Sheet Metal Works, Artesia's oldest continually operated business, is constructing the capsule. A wide variety of items that "profile" the city, its residents, businesses, schools, churches and service clubs will be placed in teh capsule. When filled and sealed the capsule will be placed in a handmade chest built by Councilmember John P. Lyon.
The museum display will include a plaque with instructions tha tthe capsule is to be opened in 25 years.
Please plan to attend the ceremonial placement of the 50th Anniversary Time Capsule on January 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Old Fire Station 30 located at the corner of Corby Avenue and 187th Street.
The event will include a short program highlighting the various 50th Annniversary celebrations that occurred throughout 2009 and a display of the items to be placed in the Time Capsule. Light refreshements will be served.
