Project on South Street

Way back in May 2007, the Metropolitan Transit Authority received a total of 406 grant applications when they made a Call for Projects.  However, 174 applications were selected for funding consieration through a competitive selection process.

Artesia was one of the successful candidates to receive a total of $1,457,500 for the South Street Pedestrian, Bikeway, and Transit Improvement Project.  Based on a 20 percent local match requirement, the SouthStreet Improvement Project was allocated $1,166,000 of federal funds and $291,500 of City Matching funds.

The final construction and planting was finished later in 2010, and features some rare palm trees, landscaping, and other improvements.
