RTA began on October 19, 1990 on KNXT channel 18 of Los Angeles. It started with the dream of two students from California State Fullerton, David Martins and José Sive, among all dificculties and obsticles they encounterd they pursued this dream. They were soon enthusiastically joined by a corresponding acquaintance of the then " Jornal Português", Fernando Dutra. It was then that these three pioneers on the historical day of October 19, 1990 presented the first Portuguese based television program in southern California. The program developed, grew and became RTA, Radio Television Artesia. This is an organization which is run by an Administrative Board and has a large impact in the Portuguese community. The radio program, "Memories of Portugal", driven by Manuel Ivo Cota and Manuel Aguiar, is the longest airing program on RTA and to this day still has great popularity.
