Artesia now offers quality Muay Thai kickboxing

Muay Thai kickboxing is probably the most powerful martial art, and was developed thousands of years ago in Thailand.

Muay Thai (Thai boxing) kickboxing, uses hands, elbows, legs, and knees for striking, as well as the infamous 'Muay Thai clinch' to increase the accuracy of elbows and knees.  The City of Artesia is proud to provide residents and non-residents alike with the opportunity to train under kickboxing trainer, or Kru, Jose Ruvalcaba and fitness instructor Antonius Ortega at Artesia Community Center.

Muay Thai is perfect for self-defense, and for fitness.  To illustrate, a person weighing 200 pounds can expect to burn 2100 calories or more in one hour, and a person weighing 150 pounds should be able to burn approximately 1600 calories, according to Diet & Fitness Today.

"I dropped 20 pounds in only two months after training under Ruvalcaba," said Andrew Perry, a student of Ruvalcaba’s.

Ruvalcaba, a former Marine, trained under three time world champion kickboxer Steve Rodarte, founder of the International Kickboxing Academy. The IKBA is the oldest and most recognized Muay Thai and kickboxing organization in the United States, and that is where Ruvalcaba became certified to be come a kickboxing trainer.

Ruvalcaba has also trained in Thailand at the Fairtex Pattaya under Kru (coach) Vut Kamnark, one of the most respected Muay Thai instructors in the world.  Ruvalcaba has also worked with Yodsaenklai, a WMC welterweight champion.

Daniel Docto, a professional fighter who lives in Thailand and runs the Ao Nang Krabi Muay Thai Stadium, trained with Ruvalcaba at Pattaya Stadium.  “Joe is a great motivator, he has a unique personality that balances discipline, hardwork with fun and energizing routines in workouts.”

Zina Docto, Daniel’s wife, is also a professional fighter and trained with Ruvalcaba.  “He has a great heart, you can feel that he really cares about people and that he is not just all

about business. This is one of Thailand's greatest characteristics and only a few people like Jose have it".

Ortega is a fitness instructor who trained in Muay Thai under Ruvalcaba, and he assists him in the Muay Thai class.  He is also a Navy veteran.  Both Ruvalcaba and Ortega are well-versed in other martial arts as well, including jujitsu, judo, and boxing.  Ortega provides his expertise in two other classes offered at Artesia Community Center; Fitness Boot Camp and Martial Arts Conditioning and Strength Training.

“I want people to understand that a healthy lifestyle shouldn’t be viewed as the ultimate sacrifice, but rather the ultimate investment,” said Ortega.

In the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and other mixed martial arts programs; Muay Thai is one of the five main disciplines that are usually practiced by fighters.  Those five are Muay Thai, jujitsu, wrestling, judo, and standard boxing.
