Historical Society sells cookbook filled with timeless recipes

Artesia Historical Society has mixed two seemingly separate subjects - history and food - into a deliciously tasteful combination.

.

Open the book anywhere and you'll find photographs and short blurbs of Artesia's history, dating back to the 1800s.   You'll even find old cleaning tips, advice, poems, and a sprinkling of treasured memories shared by fellow Artesians.

.

For instance, regarding a recipe for Autn Nell's Hash, Myrt Borden Franz wrote "Aunt Nell brought this dish to the "Ladies Aid" meeting over at the old United Methodist Church in 1924.  Myrt and her sister would go over to the church after school and have a dish.  Boy, was it good!"

.

And of course, there is the food and beverages recipes, ranging from poultry, beef, pork, seafood, to teas and desserts!  There are traditional Russian, Portuguese, Mexican, Italian, and even some good ol' fashioned Southern cooking.

.

The cookbook is available at Artesia City Hall for $25.
