City discontinues Artesia Park fireworks show for 2010

The City has opted to not show fireworks at Artesia Park during this year's 4th of July celebration.

This decision was a hard one to make by city officials, as the Independence Day celebration is the biggest and most well-attended of city events.

Unfortunately, the economy has affected the City's ability to fund certain programs.  The City has determined that to pay for a fireworks show this year would be fiscally irresponsible.

This is a temporary decision.  When the economy boosts again, the City plans to continue its long tradition of having one of the best fireworks shows in the region.

This year, there will still be an event at Artesia Park.  Guests are welcome to visit the park, barbecue, and play family games or the over-the-line tournament.  As usual, fireworks and alcohol are prohibited from the park.
