Downtown revitalization set to commence in 2012
Construction for Pioneer Blvd.'s final phase will begin immediately after the Sanitation District completes their connection of the underground sewager line.
"Sanitation District estimates their project will be completed in a year, and hopefully our project will commence immediately afterward," said Planning & Redevelopment Director Okina Dor.
The project will consist of sidewalk and roadway improvements, including new landscaped medians, curbside planters, street furnishings, bike racks, pedestrian benches, trash receptacles, and much more.
This final phase will continue the improvement that has already occurred north of 183rd Street, and enhance the aesthetic appeal and promote the economic base of Artesia's downtown.
"This project is designed to encourage and promote businesses within the downtown area to take their own initiative to improve the aesthetics of their businesses and properties.
The project area is along Pioneer Blvd., from 183rd Street south to the city limit. The bid was awarded to the Griffith Company.
