Meet Artesia's City Council

John C Martins
Council Member

John Martins was born on April 21, 1964 in Terceira, Azores. At the age of one, he and his family came to America and settled in Artesia, where they have resided ever since. John is proud that his parents, brother and three sisters, along with their children, all still live in Artesia.

From a very young age, John worked with his father and brother learning the trade of carpentry while attending local schools and graduating in 1982 from Cerritos High School. Following high school, he attended Los Angeles Technical Trade College for two years. He has been in the construction business for over 25 years, and in 1985, John and his brother Tony took over the family business and established themselves as Martin Bros. Construction. Most of Martin Bros. Construction’s business was in the surrounding area.

In 1995, John decided to get more involved with investing and developing residential real estate, and parted ways with Martin Bros. which his brother Tony continues to operate. Although they do not work together, they remain best friends.

In September of 1988, John married Karen Vieira of Cypress, California. They have been blessed with three wonderful children: Chelsea (15), Kyle (12) and Cole (8). In 1995, John accepted appointment to the City of Artesia's Planning Commission. The following year he served as its Chairman. In 2001, he was elected to the Artesia City Council.

John's hobbies include playing music (guitar and horn instruments), sports, and sharing quality time with his family.
