John P. Lyon

Elected: November 2009

John Lyon was first elected to the City Council in 1994, and re-elected in 1999.  He took a few years off in 2007 and was again elected in 2009.

John has served two terms as Mayor prior to his 2006-2007 term. Previous to being elected to City Council, he served on the Artesia Planning Commission for two years, 1992-1993. He is currently serving the City as a liaison to the Sheriff's Department, which has included his participation in the Sheriff's Department City Council Academies #1 & #2 and assuming a leadership role in the creation and design of the Artesia Mobile Law Enforcement Unit. In addition, John is the Council liaison to the Planning Commission, is involved in the fire and civil defense committee, a liaison to the JPIA (Joint Powers Insurance Authority) and involved with the City's industrial and commercial development.

During his years as Mayor, John solicited volunteers and donated his own time in remodeling the little house at A. J. Padelford Park into the first community center for the residents of that area. He is also currently renovating Old Dire Station 30, located at Corby Ave. and 187th Street.  He is a lifelong resident of Artesia. For the past 20 years, John has been a job superintendent for a local construction business. He and his wife Margie have three children.
