BoyBoy scout beautifies a once shabby Artesia Library landscape

Lowell Palacpac wanted to give back to his community.  He also wanted to make Eagle Scout.  He saw the opportunity for both in a project to beautify Artesia Library.

Eagle Scout Lowell Palacpac beautified the west side of Artesia Library with junipers, sage palms, and other eugenia.  For his efforts, the City awarded Palacpac a special Certificate of Recognition.

Palacpac decided that landscaping the library would provide him another experience to obtain his badge for Planning and Leadership, which was a requirement for him to become Eagle Scout.

He approached the City with this idea, and it was okayed by the city officials.

“I was born in Artesia,” said Palacpac, “and I always wanted to give back to the community.”

The library’s prior landscaping was very basic and simple.  City councilmembers say Palacpac’s landscaping project has greatly increased the aesthetics of the building.
