Autumn Fun at the Artesia Library

Children of all ages are invited to a back-to-school event on Saturday,
September 17, 2005, at the Artesia Library. See what the library has to offer as the new semester begins.

There will be a special performance at 2 p.m., and children in the audience will receive a storage pouch with a pencil and eraser. Admission is free.

Got homework? The Artesia Library staff is ready to help you with assignments. The library has fiction and non-fiction books, reference books and encyclopedias. You can reach the magazine article database from computers in the library, or you can connect from home if you have a library card. Also, see the selection of recorded books, musical recordings, videos and DVDs.

The library also has Internet access. Children under 18 must have parent permission for Internet access. Customers can log on for 15 minutes as a visitor or
60 minutes with a library card. A reservation can be made using your library card.

The after-school Homework Center is for children in grades 2 through 6. Staff members help students with school assignments. Additional tutors are available Wednesdays after school, through the generosity of the Woman’s Club of Artesia-Cerritos.

Another student resource is “Live Homework Help,” available from the County Library’s home page: www.colapublib.org. This site provides up to 20 minutes of online tutoring in math, science, social studies or English. It is geared to students in 4th grade through the first year of college.

For more information, please call 562-865-6614. The library is located at 18722 S. Clarkdale Ave. Hours are: Tuesday, noon to 8 p.m.; Wednesday-Thursday, noon to
6 p.m.; and Friday-Saturday, noon to 5 p.m.
