Join us for a Night Out Against Crime

Celebrate a Night Out Against Crime on August 1 at 6 p.m. at Artesia City Hall.

Find out about crime prevention programs, activities, and more that Artesia has to offer you! Meet with Artesia's council members, commissioners, sheriffs, firefighters, paramedics, and neighborhood watch captains. Listen to their tales while munching on FREE hot dogs or hamburgers.

All attending are invited to bring a side dish or dessert to share.

"Night Out Against Crime" is a national event.  People across the nation celebrate by locking their doors, turning on their porch lights, and hanging out with neighbors all night.

The event is sponsored by Target and the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).  Laysha Ward, Vice President of Community Relations for Target, Inc., said, "Target gives back more than $2 million each week to the communities in which we do business."

Target's donations focus in the areas of education, the arts, social services, and other vital community partnerships.

"We are very proud to be a sponsor of National Night Out," said Ward.

Artesia's City Hall address is 18747 Clarkdale Ave.  For more information about Artesia's event, please call (562) 865-6262.

What is National Night Out?

It's America's Night Out Against Crime . . . a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW).

Last year's National Night Out involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. In all, over 34 million people participated in NNO 2005.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:

- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods 'celebrate' NNO with a variety of events and activities such as:

block parties,
cookouts,
visits from local police and sheriff departments
parades, exhibits,
flashlight walks,
contests, and
youth programs.

NNO has proven to be an effective and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits Artesia will derive from NNO will most certainly extend well beyond the one night.
