Artesia to Draft New Design Guidelines for City
Artesia is in the process of drafting the design guidelines that lay the overall
framework for the entire city.
Design guidelines ensure quality developments and improvements by establishing guidelines, which will enhance the image of the community, and strengthen the vitality of the city’s economy.
The guidelines do not represent specific development standards but provide a framework for a preferred construction design, and leave enough room to let individuals or contractors to be creative and unique in their architectural styles. The city believes that the freedom to be creative will be an asset to the community.
Artesia currently exhibits quality construction and attractive building design throughout the community. The design guidelines will apply to new construction as well as improvements on structures that already exist. Parking lot expansions, block wall construction, and fencing are all under the instruction of the city’s design guidelines. The retention of approved building and landscaping plans will assist with future expansion plans or maintenance problems that might occur over time.
The guidelines will not replace any facets of the already adopted Artesia
General Plan or the Artesia Municipal Code, including zone ordinance. The
guide lines are only intended to be implemented by city staff, commissions,
boards, and the City Council through the review process required for issuing
building permits.
