Artesia takes steps toward a Historic District

Representatives of the City of Artesia and the Artesia Historical Society met on Feb. 7 with developer Baxter Miller regarding the development of Artesia's Historic District.

Taken into consideration were lighting, signage, the aesthetics of displays, and the possibilities of holding regular events between the Historical Museum and Old Fire Station 30.

Historical Society President Veronica Bloomfield said that one of the demonstrations and events would involve playing games from the era, including croquet, sack races, and “dropping a clothespin in a bottle”.

Bloomfield also revealed that L.A. County's Fire Department will also be donating a 1950's fire truck.

Those attending the meeting also discussed the dedication ceremony of the Historic District and groundbreaking of Old Fire Station 30 that will take place on March 10. Two retired firefighters, Joe Harkema, 86, and Hogan Willeford, 93, who actually worked at the Fire Station, have been invited to the ceremony.
