Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
After an earthquake, or some other disaster; emergency response teams are not always able to get to the area as quickly as they'd like. It is beneficial to all communities to have residents that are equipped and trained to handle the situation.
The Community Emergency Response Team Program, or CERT, was created to promote regular citizens ability to identify and handle a hazardous situation (i.e. earthquakes). Qualified CERT members will seek to minimize the effects of a disaster on a community, and to later help its recovery.
Webster's Dictionary defines a disaster as “any event that overwhelms existing resources to deal with the event.”
Within the first five minutes of a disaster, all available resources will have been committed, leaving you and your neighbors (or co-workers) to help one's self.
CERT minimizes the effects of a disaster and eases the recovery process.
The City of Artesia is seeking to use this program for our community, and we urge residents to participate.
