SoCal Edison installs 'Smart Meters'

Smart Meters differ from the old meters in that they are capable of two-way communication.

.

They can send energy usage data to the utility through a secure wireless network, and, they can receive energy usage information from the utility.  Existing meters are read in person once a month for data accumulated during the billing period.

.

Smart mers communicate energy usage data in near real-time, so customers will see how much energy they have used on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.  Monthly, manual meter reads will no longer be required.

.

Smart Meters have a lifespan of approximately 20 years.  More information can be found at www.sce.com/smartconnect.
