Prescott Hardware builds 50th Anniversary Time Capsule
Prescott’s Hardware and Sheet Metal Works, Artesia’s oldest continually operated business, constructed the City’s 50th Anniversary time capsule.
On January 9, the Artesia Historical Society, in conjunction with the City of Artesia, finished the City’s 50th Anniversary of the incorporation of the City by placing a 50th Anniversary Time Capsule in the nearly restored Old Fire Station 30 museum. At left, visitors at the Time Capsule dedication admire Prescott Hardware's workmanship and the historical items that will be going into the time capsule.
A wide variety of items that “profile” the city, its residents, businesses, schools, churches, and service clubs will be placed in the capsule.
When filled and sealed the capsule will be placed in a handmade chest builty by former mayor John P. Lyon.
The museum display will include a plaque with instructions that the capsule is to be opened in 25 years.
