Rules updated for requesting handicapped, blue curbs

 

City Council voted to change regulations governing the request of reserved handicapped spaces (aka "blue curb") in front of homes, at the city council meeting on April 12.

In order to apply for a blue curb, the applicant must meet five criteria:

  1. The garage on the property must be used for vehicles (not storage);
  2. Driveway must be used for parking operable vehicles;
  3. On-site parking spaces should not be used for the storage of inoperable/abandoned vehicles;
  4. Multiple vehicles associated with the site (other than the applicants) must be parked where greater consideration is givent o appropriately accomodate the applicant's vehicle.
  5. Any parking violations/impacts on the public street must first be reported to the Public Safety and/or Sheriff's Department for the appropriate enforcement and follow-up.  After staff action in an attempt to remedy the situation, the applicant may then resubmit the request if issues persist.

A fee of $50 will apply, but may be reduced or waived depending on household income.
