New Miss Artesia, Miss Artesia Teen selected

The Latin themed Miss Artesia & Miss Artesia Teen Pageant was held on June 4th in the Albert O. Little Community Center.

Kenia Avalos, a 16 year old student at Gahr High School, was crowned Miss Artesia Teen 2011.   Hunter Davis, a 17 year old student at Saint Joseph High School, earned the coveted title of Miss Artesia 2011.  Completing the Artesia Court are Teen Princesses, Allison Walhof and Alyssa Noble, and Miss Princesses, Andrea Acosta and Pamela Aguilar.  These six young ladies were chosen amongst 11 contestants to represent the City of Artesia for one year at city and community events.

City officials, sponsors and visiting royalty were amongst the guests who came to support the ladies taking part in this year’s pageant.  Each contestant was judged in four categories; personal interview, onstage introduction, evening gown, and an on stage question.  They impressed the panel of judges as each of them took to the stage with confidence, poise and were very well spoken.  As the scores were tallied, it was time for Miss Artesia 2010, Marlene Hernandez, Miss Artesia Teen 2010, Kristinicole Elms and princesses, Dominique Torres, Anastasia Guanio and Alexis Lucero, to bid farewell to their year as city ambassadors.

Additional awards were handed out prior to the official coronation.  Pamela Aguilar was nominated “Miss Congeniality” by her fellow contestants.  Hunter Davis earned “Best Active Wear” for dressing as her future dream job, a film director, and held a large cardboard camera.  Ruth Ramirez was named “Miss Photogenic” for taking the best overall photos.

The newly crowned 2011 Artesia Court is eager to attend the many city events throughout the year and will be working with local organizations and charities.  It is their goal to make a positive impact within their community.
