Holiday program and tree lighting ceremony
Artesia’s annual holiday celebration and tree lighting ceremony on the evening of December 7 was a huge hit with approximately 500 to 600 Artesians showing their holiday cheer.
The mayor invited everyone to join him outside to count down for the tree lighting. Artesia’s Special Assignment Officers and members of Fire Station 30 blocked off the street in front of City Hall for a few minutes so crowd would be safe as the tree was lit.
The International Peace Choir, an organization with members who started off as children and continued on into their teenage years, sang a multiethnic song to commemorate the tree lighting, and Artesia Park Preschoolers went on stage and sang five songs for the community.
This year, the City experimented with a holiday boutique, where various vendors sold various arts and crafts. Eleven vendors participated including: jewelers, Pampered Chef, Tupperware, plant arrangements, children’s items, Mary Kay, candles, My Spa Journey’s, and Miss Artesia sold baked goods. The holiday boutique was also open from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, December 8, 2007.
Activities offered to attendees included children’s crafts and a holiday boutique. Children’s crafts were located on the Eastside of the community center and included: temporary tattoos, coloring, writing letters to Santa Claus and making reindeer hats. The boutique vendors were spread out along the walls on the Westside of the community center.
Santa Claus also arrived at the community center for a photo op with children and others willing to have their photo taken. All participants were offered a free Polaroid photo taken by Artesia Park Staff. Parents were also welcome to take pictures with their own cameras. As children left the stage they were given a goodie bag filled with toys and a stuffed animal.
