Golden State Water Company responds to numerous water leaks due to cold weather
Due to the extremely cold weather, Golden State Water Company has been experiencing an unusual amount of water main leaks throughout its water systems in southern Los Angeles County. When the weather becomes extremely cold, the water main pipes become frigid, as the weather warms up the pipes expand, causing them to leak. The leaking pipes may cause low-pressure and isolated outages.
The water main leaks started on Jan. 13 with approximately 94 leaks in the Company's Region II service area. Currenlty, there are 39 remaining leaks in need of repair. The company is utilizing all available internal resources to repair the leaks as quickly as possible. Additionally, Golden State is working with local area contractors to assist them with the needed repairs.
The Southwest District of the Company's Region II service area provides service for nearly 50,000 customers in the cities of Carson, Compton, El Segundo, Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Redondo Beach, and unincorporated Los Angeles County areas including Athens, Del Aire, El Camino Village, Lennox, Rancho Dominguez, and Rosewood.
The Central District of the company's Region II service area provides service to more than 50,000 customers in the cities of Artesia, Bell, Bell Gardens, Cerritos, Cudahy, Culver City, Downey, Hawaiian Gardens, Huntington Park, Lakewood, La Mirada, Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Norwalk, Paramount, Santa Fe Springs, Southgate (Hollydale), Vernon and unincorporated areas of Los Angeles and Willowbrook.
