City Council okays median test, results will aid may affect the direction of Artesia' downtown

The City Council of the City of Artesia is considering a new and exciting downtown revitalization project that promises to transform  the downtown into a vibrant outdoor hub for shopping and entertainment with an international and cultural theme for the benefit for residents and businesses alike.

The project will create a vibrant City Gateway focal point that promotes pedestrian browsing, shopping, and entertainment.

But, before it approves the concept for the project, City Council has ordered a traffic circulation test to assess the impacts on traffic circulation in and through the central core of Artesia when Downtown Pioneer Boulevard is reduced from four to two lanes.

The test is an innovative and cost effective approach in determining the viability of the proposed project.  The results of the test will allow City Council to determine whether it can fully support the concept of the median island improvement with its associated changes to current downtown traffic flow.

If City Council implements the proposed concept for downtown revitalization, it will be embarking on a cutting edge and vibrant renovation of its existing downtown business center.  The test is scheduled to start on November 5, 2007 and last about 45 days.
