Artesia Sales Tax Update
Receipts from January through March sales were 2.1 percent lower than the same period last year.
The slowdown in construction negatively impacted results in the lumber and building materials, contractor and paint/glass/wallpaper categories. Business closeouts in auto repair shops contributed to the overall loss in auto-related sectors.
New outlets boosted sales in restaurants with no alcohol, home furnishings and restaurants with liquor. A payment deviation accounted for the gain in specialty stores.
The increase in service stations from higher fuel prices was overstaed by an adjustment that depressed revenues in the year-ago quarter.
Adjusted for reporting aberrations, taxable sales for all of Los Angles County and its cities declined 1.2 percent over the comparable time period while Southern California as a whole was down 3.1 percent.
